HOMER GLEN, IL… State Representative Patrick Sheehan (R-Lockport) released a statement regarding new evidence in the investigation of a shooting involving a Jewish man in Chicago’s West Rogers Park neighborhood.
“I am appalled by the emerging details following the hate-fueled attack on a Jewish man that took place in West Rogers Park on October 26,” said State Representative Patrick Sheehan (R-Lockport). “This heinous act of violence not only highlights an ongoing crime epidemic in Chicago but a broader trend of antisemitism in the United States.
“As the investigation continues and more evidence comes to light, the motive behind this attack has become abundantly clear. Prior to the attack, the suspect searched for Synagogues, Jewish community centers, and gun ranges and had more than 100 antisemitic photos and videos saved on his phone.
“As shocking as this attack may be, this was far from an isolated incident. There have been 77 antisemitic hate crimes in Chicago this year, twelve of them taking place in West Rogers Park alone. If we do not begin to meaningfully address the rising threat of antisemitism in our communities, these tragic incidents will only continue.
“I extend my deepest condolences to the victim and his family as they continue to heal from this horrific attack and to the entire Jewish community.”
