Rep. Sheehan Statement on Signing of FY27 State Budget

State Representative Patrick Sheehan released the following statement after Governor Pritzker signed the FY27 State Budget:

“Today, Governor Pritzker signed the largest budget in Illinois history into law.

At nearly $56 billion, this budget continues a pattern of higher spending, more taxes and fees, and little relief for hardworking families already struggling with the rising cost of living. Instead of addressing the affordability crisis, this budget includes nearly $800 million in new taxes and fees while state spending has grown dramatically over the last several years.

Adding insult to injury, the budget also sets aside approximately $410 million for programs and services benefiting illegal immigrants, including $110 million for healthcare benefits for illegal immigrants over the age of 65. While Illinois families face higher costs and increasing financial pressure, Governor Pritzker and legislative Democrats continue prioritizing spending on illegal immigrants over providing relief for the hardworking taxpayers who fund state government.

Illinois families deserve a government that lives within its means, prioritizes public safety, and delivers meaningful property tax relief. Unfortunately, this budget falls short. I voted NO because I believe taxpayers deserve better than bigger government, higher costs, and more of the same policies that continue to drive families and businesses out of our state.

We can do better for Illinois, and I will continue fighting for responsible spending, lower taxes, and policies that put Illinois families first!”

Rep. Sheehan proudly serves the people of the 37th District.
