Illinois families are feeling the pressure of rising property taxes while already trying to keep up with higher costs across the board. I’ve heard from homeowners throughout our communities who are frustrated, stretched thin, and worried about what the next tax bill will look like.
That’s why I’m co-sponsoring a legislative package focused on delivering real property tax relief, increasing transparency, and giving taxpayers a stronger voice in the process.
The package includes:
• HB 9 – Direct property tax relief for homeowners
• HB 5611 & HB 5612 – Reinvesting funds from paid-off bonds into property tax relief
• HB 2543 – Requiring voter approval before property tax increases
• HB 4625 – Reducing unnecessary layers of government
• HB 1024 – Adding transparency and sunset provisions for tax referenda
• HB 5550 – Strengthening Truth in Taxation laws and increasing notice requirements for tax hikes
Families deserve a government that respects taxpayers, values transparency, and looks for solutions instead of continuing to shift more costs onto homeowners. Illinois should be a place where working families can afford to stay, grow, and build their future.
