E-News Updates! Is Illinois Becoming a Sanctuary for Criminal Behavior?

As your State Representative, I’ve always believed that public safety should rise above politics. But this fall’s veto session made it painfully clear: some in Springfield are more interested in scoring headlines than protecting our communities.

I strongly opposed HB1312 because it places a dangerous wedge between local law enforcement and their federal partners. By banning civil immigration enforcement at courthouses, schools, and hospitals, this bill shields offenders and makes it harder for officers to do their jobs. It’s a direct threat to public safety and I won’t stand for it.

Illinois should never become a sanctuary for criminal behavior. That’s why I’m fighting to repeal the Trust Act and end Illinois’ sanctuary state status. Our laws should empower law enforcement, not tie their hands.

But instead of engaging in honest debate, Governor Pritzker launched into a profanity-laced tirade. He called federal officers “gestapo” and “jack-booted thugs.” He said Republicans “shall not know a moment of peace,” and encouraged his supporters to become “streetfighters” who “punch bullies in the face.”

This kind of rhetoric is reckless, divisive, and beneath the dignity of our state’s highest office. The Governor may have called for a stop to the hate, but we know who’s fanning the flames.

I’ll continue standing with law enforcement and every Illinois family who deserves to feel safe in their community. You can hear more of my thoughts in my interviews with The Center Square below.
