Yesterday, State Representative Patrick Sheehan attended the Illinois Vehicle Hijacking & Motor Vehicle Theft Prevention and Insurance Verification Council. Following the event, he released this statement:
“Today, I had the opportunity to attend the Illinois Vehicle Hijacking & Motor Vehicle Theft Prevention & Insurance Verification Council. We discussed the great success of the regional Auto Theft Task Force Groups on a limited budget. The main obstacle is the limited funding mechanisms necessary to combat the growing carjacking epidemic.
These crimes impact families, businesses, and entire communities. Our discussion today reinforced the need for stronger protections, better prevention strategies, and continued support for victims.
Keeping our communities safe is a top priority, and I will continue to advocate for policies that help law enforcement fight crime and hold offenders accountable.
