Rep. Sheehan Honors Law Enforcement During National Police Week

Homer Glen, IL – State Representative Patrick Sheehan is recognizing National Police Week by honoring the courage, sacrifice, and service of law enforcement officers across Illinois and the nation, while remembering those who gave their lives in the line of duty.

“As a police officer myself, National Police Week is deeply personal,” Rep. Sheehan said. “Behind every badge is a person who made a commitment to run toward danger when others are running away. It is a profession built on sacrifice, long hours, missed holidays, and a willingness to put others first.”

This year’s observance comes as many Illinois communities continue mourning the loss of Chicago Police Officer John Bartholomew, who was killed in the line of duty on April 25th. Rep. Sheehan said Officer Bartholomew’s sacrifice serves as a painful reminder of the risks officers face every day.

“Officer Bartholomew’s death weighed heavily on law enforcement officers across our state,” Rep. Sheehan said. “His family, friends, and fellow officers carry that loss forever. We owe it to him, and to every fallen officer, to make sure their sacrifice is never forgotten.”

Rep. Sheehan also reflected on the emotional toll carried by the families of law enforcement officers.

“When an officer puts on the uniform, their family serves too,” Rep. Sheehan said. “Spouses, children, parents, and loved ones live with the uncertainty that comes with this profession every single day. During National Police Week, we honor them as well.”

Throughout the week, communities across Illinois and the country will hold memorial ceremonies, vigils, and tributes to recognize fallen officers and show appreciation for those who continue serving.

Rep. Sheehan proudly serves the people of the 37th District.
