HR0718 Passes Committee, Standing for Our Fallen First Responders

Yesterday, HR0718 passed committee.

This resolution declares June 2026 as Fallen First Responders Month in Illinois to honor the firefighters, paramedics, and law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

After the heartbreaking loss of Chicago Police Officer John Bartholomew and Chicago Fire Department firefighter Michael Altman, this issue is especially heavy on the hearts of so many across our state. Their sacrifice is a painful reminder that every time a first responder answers the call, there is a family praying they make it home safely.

As a police officer, this resolution is deeply personal to me. We owe it to these heroes, and to the loved ones they left behind, to make sure their service and sacrifice are never forgotten.

I’m proud to sponsor this resolution and grateful for the bipartisan support it received in committee.
