What’s the latest on the Bears move?

State Representative Patrick Sheehan provided the following update on the latest news on the Chicago Bears stadium move on Thursday morning:

  • The State of Indiana passed and enacted a generous incentive package (including tax hikes) to lure the Bears to Hammond, Indiana.
  • Illinois’ current megaprojects proposal language includes tax incentives and infrastructure investments, but not tax hikes (in current form, at least)
  • Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson continues to advocate for the Bears staying in the city of Chicago. Pretty much everyone thinks this is already “off the table”.
  • Governor JB Pritzker believes Mayor Johnson is wrong and the choice is Arlington Heights (with statr tax incentives and infrastructure investments) or Hammond, IN.

Expect more action on this debate when the Illinois House returns to Springfield on March 18.
