Sheehan responds to Illinois Democrats’ latest attack on law enforcement

In the second week of January, on the first day of the Illinois State Senate’s Spring Session, progressive democrats filed Senate Bill 2820, their latest attack on law enforcement.

Senate Bill 2820 was filed last week by State Senator Laura Fine (D-Glenview) to prohibit law enforcement agencies from hiring as a law enforcement officer any person who was hired as a federal immigration officer by the U.S. Department of Immigration and Customs enforcement between January 20, 2025 and January 20, 2029, the term of office of United States President Donald Trump.

“For democrats to put a red mark on law enforcement officers in the midst of a recruitment and retention crisis in Illinois is the height of hypocrisy,” said Representative Patrick Sheehan, himself a suburban law enforcement officer. “Law enforcement officers should not be punished over lawful federal employment enforcing immigration.”

Sheehan went on to say, “this bill is discriminatory, an attack on due process rights, and paints all law enforcement officials with a broad brush that has never been allowed before. I strongly feel we should question the constitutionality of this bill.”

Rep. Sheehan proudly serves the people of the 37th District in the Illinois House.
