Rep. Sheehan Delivers Property Tax Relief for Seniors

I voted YES on SB 642, because seniors shouldn’t have to choose between staying in their homes and affording the basics.

This bill raises the income cap for the Senior Citizen Property Tax Freeze for the first time since 2017. That means more seniors will qualify for relief:

$75,000 in 2026

$77,000 in 2027

$79,000 in 2028 and beyond

It also strengthens the General Homestead Exemption and expands protections for low-income seniors, real changes that will make a difference for folks living on fixed incomes.

Is it a silver bullet? No. But it’s a solid step toward fairness for the people who’ve spent a lifetime contributing to our neighborhoods, schools, and local economy.

SB 642 is now headed to the Governor’s desk, and I’ll keep you updated on its status!
