Tax Hikes on Cell Phone Service

lllinois residents are paying nearly 38% in taxes on their cell phone bills, the highest rate in the entire country. That’s not a typo. Between state, local, and federal taxes, Illinoisans are getting hit every time they pay for one of the most basic tools of modern life: a phone.

Gov. Pritzker signed off on this increase as part of his record-high $55.2 billion budget, despite saying he wouldn’t approve broad-based tax hikes on working families. But I don’t know anyone who doesn’t use a phone every day.

To put it in perspective:

📱 A family of four on a $100 plan now pays $456 a year just in taxes.

📉 The national average is $320.

🧾 Our neighbors pay far less:

-Wisconsin: 21%

-Indiana: 24%

-Missouri: 28%

-Illinois? 37.7%.

Enough is enough. I’ll keep fighting to protect your paycheck and push back against the endless tax-and-spend cycle in Springfield.
