E-News Updates! What Do Lower Prescription Costs Mean for Your Family?

No one should have to choose between picking up medication and putting food on the table. But across Illinois, families are facing impossible trade-offs while powerful pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) profit behind the scenes.

As a co-sponsor of the Prescription Drug Affordability Act, I’m proud to stand up for seniors, parents, and small-town pharmacists who’ve been squeezed for too long. With the bill now signed into law, real accountability is finally here.

This new law brings overdue reforms to how prescriptions are priced and who profits:

  • Bans PBMs from funneling patients into their own affiliated pharmacies
  • Ends “spread pricing,” which lets PBMs overcharge and pocket the difference
  • Ensures rebates from drug manufacturers go to insurance plans—not corporate middlemen
  • Shines a light on secretive PBM price-setting practices
  • Invests up to $25 million annually to help independent and rural pharmacies stay open

I know how vital trusted, local care is to every community. HB1697 is a big step forward, but it won’t be the last. I’m committed to fighting for policies that put working families, seniors, and community pharmacists first, because no one should ever have to sacrifice their health for their budget.

Later this month, I’m teaming up with New Lenox Township Supervisor Cass Wennlund and Mayor Tim Baldermann for a Food Drive benefitting the New Lenox Township Food Pantry.

The Safe-T Act Must Be Repealed!

I’m struggling to make sense of how two people facing murder charges for the death of their toddler were set free. This tragic case didn’t have to end this way, and I won’t stop speaking out until we fix the Safe-T Act that failed to protect her.

Let’s Keep Kids Reading this Summer!

School’s out, but the challenge is on! I’m inviting local kids to read 10 books and earn a special certificate from me. It’s a fun way to keep young minds growing all summer and I can’t wait to hand out those awards in person.
