Homer Glen, IL… State Representative Patrick Sheehan issued the following statement upon passage of the FY26 state budget by the Illinois House of Representatives on Saturday:
“Tonight, Illinois families were handed a budget that raises taxes, increases spending, and ignores the voices of hardworking citizens. Not only that, but there is no property tax relief, or any tax relief for that matter, included. Instead of practicing fiscal responsibility, Democrats pushed through a plan that forces $1 billion in new taxes, hitting families and job creators.
This has real consequences for real people, and this is why I couldn’t support it:
-$55.2 billion in spending, nearly $2 billion more than last year.
-No new funding for recruiting and retaining police and firefighters
-Funding for illegal immigrant welcoming centers
-Tax hikes on deliveries, making groceries, prescriptions, and everyday essentials more expensive.
-Cuts to care for disabled individuals, reducing hours despite a promised pay raise.
-No transparency, with Republicans shut out of negotiations.
Illinoisans deserve accountability, fairness, and leadership that puts families first. I fought for a balanced budget without tax hikes, but Democrats ignored us and forced through a plan that makes life harder for working people.
I will continue to fight for taxpayers, transparency, and responsible spending, because Illinois families deserve better.”
Rep. Sheehan proudly serves the people of the 37th District.
