Rep. Sheehan’s HB1842 to Streamline Municipal Code Enforcement Passes Both Houses

I’m thrilled to share that my bill, HB1842, has officially passed both houses and is now heading to the Governor’s desk!

This legislation is something I’ve worked hard on because I believe every community deserves a fair, efficient, and transparent process when it comes to addressing code violations. Too often, residents and municipalities alike are caught in a tangle of red tape, unclear procedures, or inconsistent rulings. HB1842 changes that.

This bill ensures hearing officers have clear authority, receive formal training to uphold fairness, and work within reasonable limits on fines—protecting people’s rights instead of punishing them unnecessarily. It also strengthens safeguards to guarantee transparency and respect in every hearing. At its core, HB1842 is about between local governments and the people they serve. When we improve processes, we strengthen neighborhoods.

With this step forward, I’m optimistic that we’re on the path to seeing this reform signed into law.
