National Police Week

As both a Representative and a police officer, I hold a deep respect for the men and women who serve and protect our communities. National Police Week is a time to reflect on the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers and to honor those who have given their lives in the line of duty.

Since 1962, when President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day, this week has been dedicated to recognizing the bravery and commitment of law enforcement officers. This year, the 37th Annual Candlelight Vigil will take place on May 13, where the names of fallen officers will be added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial.

In 2024 alone, 147 officers lost their lives in the line of duty, a tragic reminder of the dangers faced by those who wear the badge. Their courage and dedication deserve our deepest gratitude—not just this week, but every day.

To all my fellow officers, thank you for your service. To the families of the fallen, we stand with you.
