In Springfield last week, something deeply troubling happened. While Illinois Democrats continue pushing radical policies like legalizing prostitution, they also advanced a bill that targets homeschool families with government overreach.
HB2827, misleadingly named the Homeschool Act, passed through the House Education Policy Committee, even after nearly 50,000 witness slips were filed in opposition. That kind of grassroots outcry should have stopped any bill in its tracks. There were THOUSANDS of homeschool families and advocates in Springfield to oppose the bill, and they were ignored.
Let’s call it what it is—hypocrisy.
We are here to represent the people. The people made their voices loud and clear against this bill, and it was pushed through committee anyway. How is that representing the people?
We should be empowering families, not threatening them with more government overreach simply because they’ve chosen a different path.
I believe parents should be trusted to educate their children in the environment that best meets their needs. That’s what freedom looks like. That’s what parental rights stand for. I refuse to stand quietly by while government tries to insert itself where it doesn’t belong.
