State Representative Patrick Sheehan released the following statement concerning HB2827:
“HB2827 has sparked significant concern among homeschooling families and private schools. This bill challenges the rights of parents to educate their children in alignment with their values. Over 22,000 witness slips have been filed in opposition, clearly showing the widespread disapproval.
While the bill’s sponsor has announced plans to amend the language to address objections from non-public schools, the core issue remains: this legislation represents an overreach of state authority into private education.
As your representative, I stand firmly against HB2827 and any attempt to erode parental rights and educational freedom. I recently had the chance to meet with homeschool advocates who are at the forefront of defending our educational freedom. I will continue to advocate for policies that respect choice and autonomy in education.
