E-News Updates!

Things are picking up in Springfield! We’ve been busy in committees, where we look closely and discuss newly proposed legislation in order to determine whether it should move to the House for a vote.

I want to share with you what I’ve been up to, both here in Springfield and back home in District 37. Thanks for tuning in! Cheers!

Celebrating my First Bill to Pass Committee

I am thrilled that HB1938 has moved forward in the legislative process, especially as my first bill out of committee. This legislation is important for improving the efficiency and accountability of our local governments. I am grateful for the committee’s bipartisan support and look forward to continuing to advocate for this bill. This bill allows more time for firefighters to serve people and not spend undue time on redundant reports.

I’ve Sponsored a Bill to Support Home-Delivered Meals to Seniors

Our seniors have given so much to our communities, and it’s our duty to ensure they receive the support and services they deserve. As our senior population grows more and more, it’s crucial that we secure the necessary funding to support them. Ensuring that our seniors continue to receive meals through these programs is a top priority of mine.

That’s why I’ve co-sponsored HB1541, which is tackling the pressing issue of food security for Illinois seniors. The bill dedicates $25 million from the General Revenue Fund to the Department on Aging’s Home Delivered Meals Program. This means more seniors across the state will receive nutritious meals right at their doorstep, helping to fight hunger and promote their overall well-being. By supporting this program, HB1541 aims to ensure that some of our most vulnerable community members have access to the food they need.

Fort Moore Graduation Ceremony

Team Sheehan had the profound honor of attending the Turning Blue Ceremony and graduation for the 2nd Battalion, 29th Infantry Regiment, 197th Brigade at Fort Moore. Witnessing these courageous soldiers complete their training was truly inspiring. Their bravery, dedication, and unwavering commitment to protecting our freedoms and serving our country are nothing short of heroic. The infantry embodies the core values of strength, resilience, and patriotism, and we are deeply grateful for their sacrifices. It was a privilege to stand alongside these heroes and celebrate their remarkable achievements

Illinois Vehicle Hijacking and Motor Vehicle Theft Prevention and Insurance Verification Council

I recently had the opportunity to attend the Illinois Vehicle Hijacking & Motor Vehicle Theft Prevention & Insurance Verification Council. We discussed the great success of the regional Auto Theft Task Force Groups on a limited budget. The main obstacle is the limited funding mechanisms necessary to combat the growing carjacking epidemic.

These crimes impact families, businesses, and entire communities. Our discussion today reinforced the need for stronger protections, better prevention strategies, and continued support for victims.

Keeping our communities safe is a top priority, and I will continue to advocate for policies that help law enforcement fight crime and hold offenders accountable.

If you have concerns about vehicle theft in your area, I encourage you to stay informed, contact your local police department, report suspicious activity, and take advantage of available resources.

Be safe out there! Cheers!
