Rep. Sheehan Co-Sponsors Resolution Supporting Israel – Recognizes One Year Anniversary of October 7 Attacks

HOMER GLEN, IL…. In remembrance of the Hamas assault against Israel on October 7, 2023, State Representative Patrick Sheehan (R-Lockport) has co-sponsored House Resolution 446, legislation that expresses Illinois’ steadfast support for the Republic of Israel and grieves for the Israelis who lost their lives at the hands of Hamas terrorists.

“One year ago today, the world watched in horror as Hamas carried out a brutal assault on Israel. In the early hours of October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorists killed hundreds of Israelis, many of whom were civilians, and wounded thousands more through indiscriminate rocket attacks. Men, women, and children lost their lives, and many more were kidnapped in their own homes. Today, more than 100 hostages are still being held in Gaza, seven of which are American citizens: Edan Alexander, Gadi Haggai, Itay Chen, Judith Weinstein Haggai, Keith Siegel, Omer Neutra, and Sagui Dekel-Chen.”

On the anniversary of the horrific attacks, Representative Sheehan co-sponsored House Resolution 446. The legislation, filed by House Minority Leader Tony McCombie (R-Savanna), expresses support for the civilians, soldiers, defenders, and government of the Republic of Israel and rejects any attempt to compromise, undermine, or “both sides” this fundamental moral issue of human good and evil. The resolution also offers condolences to the families who lost loved ones during the attack, including the families of the American citizens who lost their lives.

“I am horrified by the barbaric attack carried out by Hamas on October 7th and continue to grieve alongside the families of those who lost their loved ones that day,” said Sheehan. “I have co-sponsored House Resolution 446 in remembrance of the Israelis who were brutally murdered on October 7 and for those who face continued threats from Hamas. Hamas’ actions were more than just an attack on innocent people and the Republic of Israel, they were an attack on the values of peace and democracy that we as Americans value so greatly. Though this event took place halfway around the world, we, as Americans, cannot remain silent when it comes to horrific acts of terror. We must remain committed to standing alongside our allies facing threats from terrorist groups with no regard for sovereignty or human life.”

“One year removed, we, as Illinoisans, cannot forget the horrors that transpired on October 7, 2023,” Sheehan said. “I stand alongside my colleagues in our caucus in supporting Israel’s right to self-preservation. As Americans, we must remain vigilant in our efforts to bring every hostage back to safety and put an end to Hamas terrorism so that we may ensure peace and security worldwide.”
